Doc Hendley Wine to Water Keynote Speaker

I came across another Doc Hendley video where he had a sponsorship from Suburu. Pretty cool and positive that people can make a difference.
We interviewed him for MeetingsPodcast for IMEX America. I thought I would share another couple of videos of this Doc Hendley. Pretty inspirational guy.

What is Podcasting and How to Get Involved!

Meetings Marcom 11.7 936x1024 What is Podcasting and How to Get Involved!

I’ve noticed that many people have been asking “what is podcasting“, along with many podcasting questions and so I thought i’d take a moment and explain what podcasting is and what Meetings Podcast does.

Podcasting is a form of audio and/or video broadcasting on the internet. A more detailed response from Wikipedia says “A podcast is a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of audiovideo, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The word is a neologism derived from “broadcast” and “pod” from the success of the iPod, as podcasts are often listened to on portable media players“. Meetings Podcast is here to talk to event planners, event managers, event attendees, Trade Show coordinators, Keynote speakers, etc. trying to get their thoughts on events and meetings!

Do you have a meeting or event coming up? We’d love to pick your brain your about ideas and resources about your events and meetings! If you are interested in talking to either Mike McAllen or Jon Trask (our 2 podcast specialists) contact us today! Press Conference with Jonah Lehrer- Show 226

jonah L 150x150 Press Conference with Jonah Lehrer Show 226At last weeks MPI (Meetings Professionals International) we watched the opening keynote Jonah Lehrer speak about: “The heart of where good ideas come from and will reinforce how connectivity is a vital part of how we innovate. In the meetings and events industry, it’s our relationships with others combined with our ‘good ideas’ that impact those we serve and leave a lasting impact on the events we plan and the industry we’re a part of. ”

He sure left an impact on the MPI event.

Mr Lehrer gave his talk and I headed over to see him in the MPI press room.  I was late but recorded the last few minutes of the questions asked to Mr. Lehrer.  Frankly, I wasnt that impressed with his general session talk, mostly because I had watched the same speech on YouTube before heading to the conference.  ( I apoligize for the low volume- it was a big room- and a photographer camera was making lots of beeping noises)

After he answered the questions and took some pictures.  Later he was in the hallway pacing back and forth on his mobile phone.  As I watched him he seemed so young but also very upset.  I jokingly thought to myself. “He must have been having trouble securing Justin Bieber tickets.”  It turns out he had been caught making up information for his books. (Q & A: Michael C. Moynihan, The Guy Who Uncovered Jonah Lehrer’s Fabrication Problem) Jonah Lerer then promptly resigned from his job at the New Yorker. When I was chatting about this situation with super music fan Jon Trask  he said. “It is amazing to me that he would fabricate a Bob Dylan quote. Seems everything thing Bob Dylan has said has been disected and mulled over.  So it is no surprise Mr. Lehrer was caught making quotes up.”

My friend Sarah Braley had a great editorial about her experience with Mr. Lehrer.

It is sad such a great young talent has this blemish on his record.  But a good lesson to all.

PCMA Keynote

Watching Renee West, COO and President of Luxor & Excalibur doing her keynote. Smart lady. Love that she grabs information from the audience. She shows a slide of a website that the audience can go to to download her presentation. It asked for an email address to download it. She also will take questions in a comment area!

Great way to capture people from your audience contact information.

One thing I noticed as I sat and listened. She really has no slides at all? What will I get?

I guess I will report back later.

How important is it to engage your audience? I recently attended a roll out of a new executive team at a Fortune 100 company event and I could not believe how distracting the PowerPoint was. Small fonts, tiny unreadable charts and more than one read his presentation straight from the screen. Horrible color and flow which did not go with the conference template. Below are the finalists for the website here notice the use of pictures and graphics, big fonts, and minimal text. Also many other categories to look at. STEAL STEAL STEAL these ideas for your presentations! Thanks to Guy Kawasakis blog for this information and also to Guy for featuring MeetingsPodcast on!
