Keep your business development sales training program on track at your next convention

Sales training sessions need to provide opportunities for networking for learning/sharing coworkers experiences to drive sales. Results also will come from the education and motivation tactics you employ. Event management and the event planner should look into the training long before the meeting starts. Here are a few tips on keeping it fresh and engaging.

Usually the team is already in a funking mood because they don’t know what is expected of them. The obligation that they had to attend usually goes against the usual sales mentality. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. We all know you can lead them to the open bar and they will drink though. So besides having a drunk sales team you need to think about other ways to engage them. Make sure to sell participants on the benefits of training sessions and also understand the point of each training event and specifically how this can benefit them.

Keep the sales training courses presentations to a minimum and get attendees interacting. Many internal training people who normally don’t speak in public are generally pretty dull. The longer their presentation, the more boring it gets and you loose people in the audience. Don’t let this training opportunity slip away due to a snoozefest. Keep the meetings fresh and interesting. People going to meetings expect to enjoy themselves, be entertained and learn new ideas in a positive atmosphere. Information presented at training sessions must be condensed to the main points. Use storytelling and keep it really relevant to the day to day work of attendees. The material must be presented in a complete fashion and in the right order so participants can follow along. It needs to be current material, not a rehash of the same old ideas. Make sure to pick the right person(s) to do your training. Make sure they have a focused curriculum and have proven this to you in the past.

Keep it engaging. Training sessions should be a positive experience, make it fun. Learning should be focused on the attendees success. Pick a person who runs the training’s who is upbeat and able to communicate why this is so important. When folks feel they are learning something that will help them and in a positive environment, the training will be a success.
