jon2 Congratulations Jon Trask! Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM)!

Congratulations!

To Grass Shack Events and Media Senior Account Director Jon Trask on gaining his certificate in meeting management. (CMM) Jon earned his CMP designation in 2003.  Jon has also been a member of MPI since 1994.   Jons focus has been on the production aspects of meetings and media and he put this to use plus his CMP to understand the needs of meeting planners and organisers he works for.  The tools he learned in the CMM program have already come to action for our clients!  Jon wrote a business plan in the class for a meetings startup company to help planners save time and money called Avforplanners.com.  We are really proud of him here in the Shack!!

What does the Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM) do?  It educates, and certify management-level meeting and event professionals. The focus of the certificate is to provide strategic decision-making ability of these leaders to manage and deliver exceptional meetings and events that drive organizational success.

You can congratulate Jon yourself at Jon @ grassshackroad.com   or on twitter @jontrask

Congratulations Jon Trask! Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM)!

BBQ, WEC12 and looking to the future of MPI- Show 220

New MeetingsPodcast for iTunes 4 150x150 BBQ, WEC12 and looking to the future of MPI Show 220Jon Trask and Elizabeth Glau get ready for WEC 2012 by stopping at a BBQ place and chatting about the upcoming conference in Saint Louis. They talk about their plans, attendee engagement before the show and some of the hits and misses they’ve observed as the show approaches in a few weeks.

Looking beyond WEC they ask some questions about MPI and it’s role in the meetings industry in the new economy and business environment that we all work in. Among the questions: “Is there a disconnect between International MPI and the local chapters?” “Does MPI service it’s members well and meet the needs of it’s evolving membership?” “What is the focus of MPI compared to PCMA, are they evolving in the right ways?”

We’d welcome input on these questions both here and on the podcast. We’ll be looking for folks both at WEC 12 in Saint Louis and remotely to comment back to us about MPI and it’s direction in the future.

Lastly, we discuss the Podcast Meetup Meetings Podcast WEC Meetup to be held in Saint Louis on July 30th.

If you’re nearby at WEC or just in Saint Louis that night, be sure and drop by and join us.

Producing Meetings in Second Lifes Virtual World

Of the many people I (Mike) met at Meeting Professionals International (MPI) MeetDifferent conference in Atlanta this week, the only person I really had mixed feelings about meeting was Dan Parks of Corporate Planners Unlimited. I think it was last year when I was doing a bunch of work in Second Life. I produced a few meetings and actually was on the cover of Successful Meetings Magazine for the meetings I produced there. We had a virtual office and really spent most of my time showing meeting planners around to some venues. Dan at the same time was working on a large Meeting Community mansion in Secondlife and was a moderator for MeCo Community. Somehow our streams crossed and I stopped going to the MeCo forums. But planner Jessica Levin introduced us and I am glad she did. It was great to meet Dan face to face and he even gave me a very nice cigar! Take a look at this short video of what Dan has accomplished in Second Life. Have you been to a meeting in Second Life yet?
