Getting the Attention of your Meetings Attendees

In 1914 Ernest Shackleton placed the following ad in a London newspaper seeking recruits for his imperial trans-antarctic expedition:

“MEN WANTED FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY. SMALL WAGES, BITTER COLD, LONG MONTHS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS, CONSTANT DANGER, SAFE RETURN DOUBTFUL. HONOR AND RECOGNITION IN CASE OF SUCCESS.”

Sounds like a great job huh? But thousands of people answered this ad. Why because it has the makings of a great story. One people want to be part of. It breathes excitement and has all the elements of a great fantasy story:

Think about the message- Adventure!
The challenge- Men wanted!
The conflict- hazardous journey- darkness, danger, safe return doubtful.
Great possible happy ending- Honor and recognition in case of success!

So Shackleton (or his marketing team icon smile Getting the Attention of your Meetings Attendees ) made a horrible cold journey that you might die on sound like a terrific appealing adventure!

Think about how you can make your next sales meeting or product launch be an adventure for your attendees. It does not have to be expensive just think about the story you are presenting to them!

Having a Global Meeting?

Want some great ideas from shows we have done in the past? Maybe it will spark some conversation to help give some ideas to our readers/listeners for their own shows.
In the below picture we had a very high level meeting for executives from all over the world. Of course the budget was tight so we decided to utilize Google earth for each of the attendees countries. The screens would shoot into each country and a iconic image of that country would come up. Then it would shoot out to the world and back into the next country. It was visually impressive and set the tone for the whole meeting. We really enjoyed putting it together and it made me want to see more of this beautiful world we live in.

Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow

Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow = EPCOT
As we sit down and work creatively brainstorming for a new sales meeting program, it is important for us to build a theme which will get the attendees inspired enough to move to action. I came across this video of goals and ideas that Walt Disney had for Disney World in Orlando which is a good example of creative planning. Look at the event like you have a unlimited budget and time. Find what would be the best way to reach your attendees. Of course Walt did not realize his whole dream of the Orlando area but he did think BIG. Really big and came up with a very successful theme parks. Too bad the meeting we are working on isnt in Orlando. icon smile Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow
