I (mike)received this email today with a note from MPI Northern California Chapter Leadership written by David Kliman

Below is the letter David sent via fax and email to Speaker Pelosi and Senators Boxer and Feinstein today. ( I also did the same thing)

He (and I) urge you to take action and contact our government leaders in DC – it’s easy and takes just a few minutes – We also need to spread the word.

We need to get our government leaders this information EN MASS today and tomorrow. TIME IS OF THE ESSENSE. Please spread the word – it is important to both email and FAX their offices…and phone calls are also useful.

Producing Meetings in Second Lifes Virtual World

Of the many people I (Mike) met at Meeting Professionals International (MPI) MeetDifferent conference in Atlanta this week, the only person I really had mixed feelings about meeting was Dan Parks of Corporate Planners Unlimited. I think it was last year when I was doing a bunch of work in Second Life. I produced a few meetings and actually was on the cover of Successful Meetings Magazine for the meetings I produced there. We had a virtual office and really spent most of my time showing meeting planners around to some venues. Dan at the same time was working on a large Meeting Community mansion in Secondlife and was a moderator for MeCo Community. Somehow our streams crossed and I stopped going to the MeCo forums. But planner Jessica Levin introduced us and I am glad she did. It was great to meet Dan face to face and he even gave me a very nice cigar! Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Debuts Hard Hitting Program

Yesterdays opening session was a unique experience for Meeting Professionals International (MPI) to dive in to new technology with the stage being webcasted to the world from to taking questions from the world viz text messaging. I applaud the production teams for their hard work on this. Obviously, this type of thing is a new landscape for or industry and they went after it. The gist of the event was Meeting Professionals International (MPI) trying to tackle the economy and give meeting planners real solutions to real problems. Honestly it was very much doom and gloom but I walked out feeling like that I can “Survive and Thrive” I will write more about my experience and share some video from the event later, but I am running off to catch a session.

MPI Atlanta Report- MPI Knocks It Out Of The Park For The Opening Reception

Mike here with a quick update from MPI’s MeetDifferent event in Atlanta. I wish I took more video at the Opening Reception at the Georgia Aquarium but I was enjoying the atmosphere and ended up chatting with MPI members.(see the crappy video I shot and edited below) I actually didn’t get to see the whole Aquarium which is an amazing venue to hold an event. Being from the Bay Area my allegiance is to the Monterey Bay Aquarium as the best in the world but I have to say this new venue is brand new and amazing. The huge tanks with giant whale sharks and the human like Beluga whales were a spectacular backdrop and made for the easiest networking situation I have even been involved in. Sadly, my huge stack of Grass Shack Events & Media cards which I thought no way I would be able to get rid of was cut in half. Great job MPI! If you do an program in Atlanta the Georgia Aquarium a must!

Some bad lighting but you get the gist of the reception at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta Georgia for the Meetdifferfent 09 Conference. It was a really fun event with great food, decor, people in a fabulous venue!
