#The5

The 5

One of my favorite internet online guru type guys is Chris Penn. Not not the actor guy who died, but Christopher S Penn of Blue Sky Factory. Our friend Greg Cangialosi just hired the ninja as he is called. I have been a big fan of his since he used to call in and correct Adam Curry on his podcast the Daily Source Code.  You can find Chris weekly is on his podcast Marketing over Coffee which he does from a Dunkin Donuts with Jon Wall.  I always get good info from this podcast and if you like online marketing tips this is the podcast for you.

One think Chris started doing is posting #the5 which are things he comes across in his daily readings. I shamelessly stole the below paragraph about what Chris does with #the5 from his blog. Check out his blog and add it to your reader.

“Using the hashtag #the5, I’ll let you know about 5 things that caught my eye in the morning news. It might be marketing, search, social media, amusing silly fun, or heck, even big World of Warcraft news (you can bet Cataclysm will make #the5 on launch day). Whatever’s interesting and of note in the morning reading, it’ll get tagged #the5.

Obviously, this would be a great deal more interesting if you participated, too. Yes, there’s Google Reader shared items. Yes, there’s all different ways of sharing stuff. #the5 is just a more casual way of doing it, and it’s focused on the start of the workday, interesting things that catch your mind and eye before the day gets busy. It might be a photo, a tweet, a video, whatever.”

Where I am constantly jotting down notes when I read saying. “I have to do a blog post or a podcast about this!” I think doing my own #the5 will alleviate some stress from my life plus share the things I find interesting and I hope you feel the same.

Here are my #the5 for today:

1) Duarte Blog about TED presentations and how they give a Slideology book to every presenter.  After coming off presenting 2 shows where many of the presentations were done the night before and filled with. “I know you can’t read this” slides whith tones of bullet points etc… it is refreshing to see that simply reading Slideology and Garr Reynolds books are an easy way to make your presentations shine.

Best line from the post : Most of the presentations had a clear message and the visuals amplified the talk instead of detracting from it. Graphics have been simplified and the presenters are well rehearsed.

2) One presenters experience with the twitter backchannel. Interesting story.  danah boyds post

3) Google Voice
- Google Voice is about giving you more control over your communications, through dozens of features — ranging from call screening to voicemail transcription to the ability to send and receive SMS by email.

4) Using Google docs to plan your wedding. Interesting post on how to use Google docs to plan your wedding. I know it is getting easier and easier to use Google tools to make your business more efficient and search-able.

5) Finally to round out the day: Remember you are awesome!
