Funny how life leads you down different paths and the path I am on now is one of EventCamp NYC. I have been at Podcamps and Wordcamps unconferences before but this is the first Eventcamp of its kind. It is out in New York and when I heard some event professionals were attempting it I wanted to help with the production. Luckily my relationship with a good friend and resource Marty Brooks of Core Staging stepped up to sponsor the event and so the show is happening!
Putting on this event with the rest of the eventcamp crew has been a lot of fun so far. Lots of meetings with a big crescendo in New York on February 6th where the experiences and conversations can lead to more education and friendships. I find great value in these people. Though I have never met some of them, and met the others only once or twice in person. But that’s what the secret of EventCamp is all about: What we can learn from our own experience and the experience of others. In my fireman days we learned something, actually did it in a real life situation and then we taught it to someone else. That was the formula – the same formula works here in places like Event Camp. Nobody is being paid everyone is here to share ideas, teach and learn.
Industries change and our industry landscape is changed by Social Media and the Internet. Event Camp will be teaching though the same models We will be learning, doing and teaching social media with my new friends. Kinda sappy but true. I hope you join us on February 6th at the Roger Smith Hotel in New York City. if you want to follow the action on Twitter the hash tag is #ec10. For more information go to http://eventcamp.org
